"A Renaissance Woman in the true sense of the word. She has chosen, mastered, and
excelled in fields from social service to law, health and fitness to poetry, and much more.
She has advocated social justice through her award-winning poetry, and she brings that
same passion to the practice of law." Sandra Jackson-Opoku, Writer
A Community Advocate, Mance's entire career has been based exclusively in people
and public endeavors. She not only has provided extensive professional service to the
communities of Chicago, Ginger has provided innumerable volunteer services. Through 30
years of public service she has continued to make an impact, to motivate, to uplift and to use
all of her talents to serve humanity; this she describes as her purpose in life.
Balancing Law and Creativity - Ginger was featured in the Fall 1994 and Fall/Winter,
1999 issues of Loyola Law Magazine as an alumna who balances law and creativity. Writers
Kevin Davis and Laura Gatland noted that:
“After earning her J.D. Degree from the Loyola School of Law in 1990, Mance worked as an
assistant public defender in the Cook County Juvenile Court where she began a unique
partnership between her poetry and her practice. During closing arguments, she drew upon
powerful imagery and African proverbs; touches that she believes helped her to win a
significant number of cases. As part of her earlier work in Juvenile Court, Mance was asked
to read her poetry during job training for other new assistant public defenders to help
sensitize them to clients who were African American.” Loyola Law Magazine – Fall/Winter,
1999.
